Energy Efficiency and Environment in Buildings (EEEB) in the 4th National Conference

The Project of Energy Efficiency and Environment in Buildings (EEEB) attended in the 4th National Conference and Exhibition of Sustainable Building and Energy Conservation on November 25-27 2019 with presenting its main activities and holding training workshops in the field of building codes and energy auditing.

On the conference opening day, Dr. Ali Vatani, National Project Director (NPD), gave a speech over the energy efficiency in the buildings sector in Iran and mentioned that although energy is effortlessly wasted in Iran, there is a great potential of expertise and knowledge in the young and graduated people that can be utilized to reduce it.

Ms. Shekari, National Project Manager (NPM), participated in the panel of “Building Energy Certificate and identification”, while presenting EEEB project and actions taken in the three components of the project, introduced the idea and purpose for establishment of building Energy Certificate and Identification.

Also, Mr. Kanagaraj GaneSan (EMIS international expert) shared his experience from India at this conference by presenting the other countries' experiences, highlighting the experience of building codes revisions and in India.

On the second and third day, the visitors of EEEB project’s booth got more familiar with the project and its activities and approaches as well as public and private partners and stakeholders of the project.

On the third day of the conference, national experts of the EEEB Project, delivered two workshops on 1) energy audit, energy efficiency measures implementation and Measurement and Verification (M&V) of energy savings (by Mr. Navid Bagheri) and building codes, energy labeling, and building energy certificate and Identification (BEID) in building (by Mr. Adel Mohaghegh).

It should be noted that all presentations by the international expert, national manager and national experts in the workshops are available at the end of this report.

Dr. Ali Vatani’s speech in the 4th National Conference and Exhibition of Sustainable Building and Energy Conservation

Dr. Ali Vatani, National Project Director (NPD) of EEEB Project pointed out to the energy consumption in Iran and said: “In our country, two million barrels of oil and three million barrels of oil equivalent, natural gas are consumed identical to five million barrels of oil energy per day, that is equivalent to $108 billion annually”.

Dr. Vatani stated that Energy Intensity in Iran was 18 times compared to Japan and now it is about 9 times meaning that 8 time more energy is consumed than Japan to produce a good with the same value.”

“Seven million oil and gas processes have been identified that can be used to make a profit, but in our country, the easiest way is to burn energy”.

NPD of the Project stressed that entrepreneurial is on added value and said: “In this situation, we regret why we have unemployed people and still, after 110 years, we have not been able to raise the oil extraction coefficient to an acceptable level.”

He highlighted that 60 billion IRR of energy is consumed daily in the building sector of the country and Tehran's share is 25%, contributed for 15 billion IRR per day and about 5000 billion IRR per year. And we are burning this energy instead of energy efficiency.”
